The Nelson Family :: A Midland Texas Family Session

I met Lauren a few years ago when the photographer she had been using previously moved away and she needed someone new for Miss EK’s first birthday photos. One of many benefits of valuing community over competition is that it fosters connections between photographers so when she needed a recommendation, the previous photographer sent her my way. Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of working with them a number of times and they are always such fun. EK has loads of personality and is a total pro at photos.

This session was actually from their family session last fall (because I am like a million years behind on blogging) at one of my favorite Midland locations. I figured I needed to blog this one because I have since shot some maternity photos for Lauren AND I have their Fresh 48 session for EK’s baby sister coming up next week. Unless baby sister decides to show up early, that is.

Aside from how gorgeous this family is, I also wanted to talk about this location… Probably the most common thing I hear when I talk to clients about booking their session is that they don’t know where to have them taken because there is no place pretty around Midland or Odessa. Au contraire, my friends!!! There are so many lovely spots if you know what to look for. If you’ve done any shopping around for a local photographer, you’ll notice that there are a handful of locations that get a LOT of repeat use, and while there is certainly nothing wrong with shooting at the Museum of the Southwest or the Wildlife Preserve, I pride myself on being able to provide more unique locations for my clients. When we were in the planning stages, Lauren told me, “I’m just envisioning a field with kind of a golden sunset but other than that, I totally trust you.” And I’m super glad she did, because I am still (almost a year later) smitten with this session.
